Casaluna launched in 2020 as Target’s answer to consumers who wanted better-quality home textiles without leaving the Target ecosystem. The timing was deliberate. The pandemic pushed a significant number of consumers toward home investment, and Target saw an opportunity to capture spending that was flowing to higher-end retailers and direct-to-consumer brands.

The brand’s name and positioning signal a softer, more spa-influenced aesthetic than Threshold’s cleaner lines. More importantly for cotton buyers, Casaluna came out of the gate with a clearer certification story than most of what had preceded it in Target’s house brand portfolio.

What Casaluna Gets Right

The most meaningful thing Casaluna does differently from most retailer house brands is distinguishing between certified and uncertified claims at the product level. GOTS-certified organic products are labelled as such on product pages, with the certification displayed alongside the product specifications rather than buried in fine print.

This matters because it gives buyers a concrete way to know which products have independent backing. GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certification requires third-party auditing of the entire processing chain from fibre to finished product. It is one of the more rigorous textile certifications available, and its presence on specific Casaluna products is a genuine quality signal.

OEKO-TEX and the Certification Range

Beyond GOTS, some Casaluna products carry OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certification, confirming chemical safety testing. The combination of GOTS on organic lines and OEKO-TEX on other lines gives Casaluna a more credible certification portfolio than Threshold or most other retailers’ house brands.

The gap is, as always, Egyptian cotton. Casaluna does not hold the Cotton Egypt Association Pyramid Mark. Egyptian cotton language appears on some products, and that specific claim has no independent backing. Given how well Casaluna handles its organic cotton certification, the absence of CEA certification on Egyptian cotton products is a missed opportunity rather than evidence of active misrepresentation.

The Target Context

It is worth acknowledging that Casaluna exists within Target’s retail family, and Target is the retailer that had the most prominent Egyptian cotton fraud case in recent US retail history when it terminated Welspun India in 2016. The fact that Target’s own premium brand continues to use unverified Egyptian cotton language is notable in that context.

Casaluna’s approach is more honest than Threshold’s, but the fundamental gap in Egyptian cotton certification applies at both tiers.

Who Should Consider Casaluna

These products suit you if:

• GOTS-certified organic cotton is a priority
• You want the best-certified option within Target’s house brand range
• Target pricing and retail infrastructure are important factors
• You are not specifically focused on Egyptian cotton verification

Look elsewhere if:

• The Cotton Egypt Association Pyramid Mark is a requirement for your Egyptian cotton purchase
• You want specialist Egyptian cotton brands with deeper fibre credentials
• Organic certification is less important than Egyptian cotton authentication

Casaluna is the most honest of the Target house brands on certification. GOTS certification is real, verifiable, and worth the label. The Egyptian cotton claims are the one area where the same rigour has not been applied.
