Is the West Month Mattress Topper Truly Worth $280? I Put 5 Mattress Toppers to the Ultimate Test.

Emily Carter · Home & Lifestyle Writer · Updated October 2026

If you have been served the West Month mattress topper ad, you are not alone. It is the most heavily advertised cloud topper I have come across: about 156 active Facebook and Instagram ads in October 2026, running under six different page names, all pointing at the same product page. The ad promises a 1000 GSM hotel bed, a 59% discount and "4.9 out of 5 from 20,000+ happy sleepers." Before you spend $279.99 on a queen, you should know what is behind those numbers, where the company is, and what happens if you want to send it back.

I ordered the West Month topper, slept on it, washed it, and put it next to four others: Kemet's new Cloud Mattress Topper, Onuia's Cloud Topper, Brooklinen's down alternative pad, and the Linenspa foam topper everyone buys on Amazon. It went through the same protocol as the ten toppers in my cloud mattress topper roundup. I compared them on fill, cover fabric, skirt fit, shipping origin, return terms, review claims, and price per size.

Here's the honest breakdown of every topper I compared:

Quick summary: If you're short on time, skip to the final verdict or the side-by-side comparison table.

Top Pick

Kemet Cloud Mattress Topper: Our Top Pick

Kemet Cloud Mattress Topper fitted on a queen bed
From $199.95  $400 · Queen $249.95

Kemet 9/10

1200 GSM down-alternative fill, box-stitch quilted so the loft stays even, inside a 100% cotton cover. The elasticated deep-pocket skirt fits mattresses from 8 to 24 inches deep, so it stays put on a thin guest bed and a deep pillow-top alike. Nearly three times the fill of a standard 450 GSM pillow-top pad, and it goes straight into the washing machine.

What put it on top for me is that it gives you more than the West Month promises without the West Month gamble. Both are plush, but the Kemet is the thicker and heavier of the two on the bed, with 1200 GSM of named fill against West Month's claimed 1000. The rest of the difference is everything around them: Kemet lists its fill and its 100% cotton cover in the product text rather than on a badge, ships free from a US warehouse in 3 to 7 days, takes back unused toppers within 30 days (less a 25% restocking fee unless it arrives faulty), and comes from a brand that already holds the Cotton Egypt Association's Gold Seal for its towels. All that fill does sleep a little warmer and takes longer to dry after a wash. A queen is also $30 cheaper. Half off list price right now.

West Month Mattress Topper: My Full Review

West Month mattress topper fitted on a wooden queen bed
Queen $279.99  $799.99 · Twin $239.99 · King $279.99

West Month 3/10

West Month's Premium 1000GSM Mattress Topper went up on usewestmonth.com in December 2025. The pitch is "1000GSM ultra-thick padding," a breathable quilted top, reinforced elastic corners, and a deep-pocket skirt for 8 to 21 inch mattresses, in White or Dark Gray. On October 28, 2026, Twin and Twin XL were $239.99 against a $579.99 "compare at" price, and Full, Queen, King and Cal King were $279.99 against $799.99. Those reference prices are the brand's own claim, and they move: the same SKU, QN1146, is listed six times on the store under names like Pressure Shield, Hotel Luxury Bundle and Presidential Hotel Suite, with compare-at prices from $469.99 to $999.99 for the same queen.

On the bed it is good. It is plush, the box stitching keeps the fill where it belongs, and after the 20 minute tumble in the dryer that the care FAQ recommends it lofted up to something close to the Kemet and the Onuia. It washed fine on cold. If I were scoring the topper alone it would land around a 6. But the page text never names the fill or the shell fabric. "1000 GSM" is a weight, not a material. One listing graphic calls the fill "3D and 7D down alternative," which is polyester fibre; another carries a "100% organic cotton" badge beside an OEKO-TEX number (21.HCN.61688) that I could not find in the OEKO-TEX label check, plus a CertiPUR-US logo, which is a foam certification that has nothing to do with a fibre topper. No thickness is published anywhere.

Then there are the numbers. The product page says "Rated 4.9/5 by 20,000+ Happy Sleepers." The stats block further down the same page counts up to a "4.8" rating, footnoted "based on internal studies and customer feedback surveys." The home page says "4.8/5 based on 20,000+ reviews" and "Join 15,000+ customers." I could not find a review count anywhere on the site; the review widget loads ten reviews at a time. Off the site the picture is clearer. At the time of writing, Trustpilot shows 95 reviews for usewestmonth.com, 81 percent of them one star, and the rating itself is unavailable "due to a breach of our guidelines," while Trustpilot's own notice adds that it has "removed a number of fake reviews for this company." The one-star pattern is consistent: returns that have to be shipped to Australia at the buyer's cost (one reviewer was quoted $157 to return a $239 topper, two others put the postage at $80, several say it cost more than the topper), orders that arrive in the wrong size or in duplicate, Gmail-only support that goes quiet, and buyers turning to their card issuer for a chargeback. Two reviewers say their parcel came from China; one says hers shipped from a warehouse in New Jersey. A handful of five-star reviews describe a "marshmallow feel" and quick replies, so the good experience exists. It just is not the common one.

The refund policy explains some of this. Returns are accepted within 30 days only if the topper is "unused, with tags, and in its original packaging," the return address is "provided" after you email, and "we cannot accept returns on sale items." Every topper on the site is shown against a compare-at price. Delivery is quoted at 7 to 10 business days in the FAQ and 5 to 12 in the shipping policy, which mentions "customs procedures" without ever saying where the parcel starts; mine took 12. One more thing to know: on Walmart, a listing titled "Onuia Mattress Topper Queen Size, Premium Quilted 1000Gsm Extra Thick Mattress Topper ... Westmonth Mattress Topper" sells what looks like the same quilted 1000 GSM topper for about $110, with roughly 3.2 stars. I cannot tell you who is behind that listing, but it carries both brand names in one title, and it is a strong hint that the same factory topper is being sold under more than one label at very different prices.

Who is West Month? The store's own Shopify data lists the business in Docklands, Victoria, Australia, selling in US dollars to twelve countries. The domain usewestmonth.com was registered in August 2025, the topper listing went live that December, and the only contact details are two Gmail addresses: no company name, no postal address, no phone number. The ads run under West Month Hotel Collection, West Month Store, The Sleep Edit, The Comfort Edit, Black Friday Sleep Deals and Black Friday Bedding Deals. Do not confuse it with westmonth.com, which belongs to a Guangdong sourcing platform for cross-border dropshippers; that domain's Trustpilot profile has nonetheless collected 21 more reviews, 90 percent one star, from topper buyers who landed on the wrong page.

Onuia Cloud Topper

Onuia Cloud Topper on a bed
Queen $249.95  $500

Onuia 3/10

The Instagram one, and the West Month's closest relative. Onuia's Cloud Topper promises "1000 GSM, wrapped in 100% premium cotton," but the listing never names the fill, the Amazon listings for the same topper call it down-alternative fibre, and the product description is pasted from an AI chat with the chat window's HTML still in the page source. On Walmart a near-identical topper sells for about $110 with 3.2 stars under a title that carries both the Onuia and Westmonth names. It ships from Asia, and returns go back there at your cost. Plush for a few nights, but at $249.95 you're paying Kemet money for a mystery. Full Onuia Cloud Topper review here.

Brooklinen Down Alternative Mattress Topper

Brooklinen down alternative mattress topper
Queen $159 · Full $149 · King $169

Brooklinen 6/10

The honest budget option from a real brand. Microgel fill in a 240 thread count cotton shell, an 8 by 8 inch box top, a waterproof layer on the underside, and a skirt that fits mattresses up to 18 inches. It's machine washable, there's no Twin, and Brooklinen backs it with a long trial and US returns, which after West Month feels like a luxury in itself. The catch is that it's barely an inch thick. It protects the mattress and softens the surface, but it won't give you the deep pillow-top feel the West Month ads are selling. Full Brooklinen mattress topper review here.

Linenspa 3 Inch Gel Memory Foam Topper

Linenspa 3 inch gel memory foam mattress topper
Queen $89.99

Linenspa 4/10

The Amazon bestseller, and the cheapest way to change how a mattress feels. Three inches of gel-infused memory foam, medium firmness, tens of thousands of reviews. It's a different animal from a fibre topper: it conforms instead of cushioning, sleeps warmer, needs a day or two to expand, and smells like foam when you open the box. There's no skirt or straps, so it drifts unless you pin it under a tight fitted sheet. Fine for a dorm or a spare room, not what most people mean by a cloud.

Final Verdict: Which Mattress Topper Is Actually Worth It?

West Month sells a decent topper inside a funnel I would not send a reader into. The topper itself is plush and close to the two best in this test. But the company behind it is a pair of Gmail addresses and an Australian store registration, the review figures change from page to page on its own site, Trustpilot has made its rating unavailable, the refund policy excludes sale items when every item is on sale, and the return address, once you finally get one, has usually been on another continent. At $279.99 for a queen it is also the most expensive topper here. If you already own one and like it, keep it, fluff it, and enjoy it. I would not order one.

For more fill from a company you can actually deal with, the Kemet Cloud Mattress Topper is $30 less for a queen, names its 1200 GSM fill and its 100% cotton cover, fits mattresses up to 24 inches deep, and ships from a US warehouse in 3 to 7 days. It's half off list right now with free US shipping and 30-day returns.

The West Month felt fine. Getting it, and the thought of ever sending it back, did not. With a US warehouse and a heavier fill it actually names, this is the one I'd choose.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the West Month mattress topper worth it? +

At $279.99 for a queen on October 28, 2026, the West Month Premium 1000GSM Mattress Topper is plush and the closest in feel to our top pick, but it costs $30 more than the Kemet queen, the brand's own pages quote three different review figures, Trustpilot has made its rating unavailable for a breach of its guidelines and says it has "removed a number of fake reviews for this company", and buyers describe returns that go to Australia at their own cost. We rated it 3/10: a decent topper sold by a company we would not want to deal with if anything went wrong. My full notes are above.

Is West Month legit, and where does it ship from? +

West Month is a real store that ships a real topper. Its Shopify store data lists the business in Docklands, Victoria, Australia, the domain usewestmonth.com was registered in August 2025, and the only contact details on the site are two Gmail addresses. The site never says where orders ship from: the FAQ quotes 7 to 10 business days and the shipping policy quotes 5 to 12 and mentions customs. Reviewers report parcels from China and from a New Jersey warehouse, and return addresses in Australia. About 156 Facebook and Instagram ads ran for the topper in October 2026 under six page names. If you do order, pay with a card that offers chargeback protection and keep the packaging.

Is the West Month topper really 1000 GSM? +

West Month says 1000 GSM, but GSM is a weight, not a material or a thickness, and the page text never names the fill or the shell fabric. One listing graphic calls the fill 3D and 7D down alternative, which is polyester fibre, and another shows a 100% organic cotton badge beside an OEKO-TEX number we could not verify in the OEKO-TEX label check. No loft figure is published. The same SKU, QN1146, is listed six times on the store under different names with compare-at prices from $469.99 to $999.99, and a Walmart listing that carries both the Onuia and Westmonth names sells what looks like the same quilted 1000 GSM topper for about $110. It's the same pattern we found with the Onuia Cloud Topper.

What is the best alternative to the West Month mattress topper? +

Our top pick is the Kemet Cloud Mattress Topper. It is plush like the West Month but carries more fill and names it: 1200 GSM down-alternative fill against West Month's claimed 1000 GSM, under a 100% cotton cover. It uses box-stitch quilting, fits mattresses from 8 to 24 inches deep, ships free from a US warehouse in 3 to 7 days, and takes back unused toppers within 30 days (less a 25% restocking fee) from a brand that already holds the Cotton Egypt Association Gold Seal for its towels. A queen is $249.95, which is $30 less than the West Month queen. Read our full Kemet Cotton review for the background on the brand.

How did we compare these toppers? +

We bought the West Month topper at retail, slept on it, washed it, and compared it with four alternatives on fill, cover fabric, skirt fit, shipping origin, return terms, review claims and price per size. Every spec in the table comes from the brand's own listing or policy pages as of October 28, 2026, and we flagged any claim we couldn't verify. Read more about how we test.

Mine arrived vacuum packed and flat as a pancake. I honestly thought they had sent a mattress protector. After a night on the bed and the 20 minute dryer trick it came up to something like the photos. Mentioning it because the first impression out of the box is not what the ad shows.

I bought in May when Trustpilot still showed a star rating for them. By the time I needed to return it in July the rating said unavailable. That timing tells you something.

Small thing: the Westmonth listing on Amazon says it fits 8 to 26 inch mattresses, the website says 8 to 21. Same product, two different numbers. Which one is it?

Beth C. Milwaukee, WI · Aug 17, 2026

I tried the OEKO-TEX label check with the number from their graphic too and got nothing. Could be a typo on their side, could be something else, but a real certificate number should come up.

Does the Kemet topper ship to Canada? West Month does, which is partly why I was looking at it.

Not yet, Omar. The topper ships to US addresses only from their US warehouse. Kemet's towels and sheets still ship worldwide. If that changes I'll update the article.

Fair's fair, mine is good. Thick, soft, delivered in 11 days, no issues. The company may be hard to deal with but the topper in my house is fine. I just wouldn't want to be the one who needs to send it back.

Mine went lumpy after one wash. A few of the squares feel empty and the rest bunched up. I followed the cold wash and low dry instructions exactly. For $280 I expected it to survive a wash.

I emailed to cancel ten minutes after ordering because I picked the wrong size. No reply. It shipped four days later anyway. Then the return address was in Australia. I now own a Twin XL topper for a Queen bed.

So is West Month legit or not? I keep seeing the ad and the reviews on their page are all five stars.

A real topper arrived at my house, so legit in that sense. The trouble starts if you need to change or return anything. Read the Trustpilot pattern Emily lays out above and decide if you're comfortable with the odds.

Ordered the Kemet after reading this. Four days to Nashville. It's not as squishy as the West Month photos make theirs look, but it's deep and the stitching is tidy. My husband stopped complaining about his hip, which is the only review that matters in this house.

The 'Hotel Collection' and 'Comfort Edit' pages are the same store. I tapped both ads on Instagram in one evening and landed on the same URL with the same countdown timer. Once you see it you can't unsee it.

Ordered one Queen. Got two. Charged for two, $560. No phone number anywhere, emails unanswered for 17 days. Amex sorted it. I still have the second topper in the box because nobody will tell me where to send it.

Alicia R. Seattle, WA · Sep 25, 2026

Counterpoint: mine came in 8 days from a New Jersey address, no customs, no drama. It's soft, it sleeps cooler than the foam topper I had, and it washed fine on cold. I'm happy. I just seem to be in the minority here.

Tom B. Minneapolis, MN · Sep 29, 2026

The line in the refund policy that got me was 'we cannot accept returns on sale items.' Everything on that site is on sale. They quoted that sentence back to me when I asked to return an unopened topper. Read the policy before you buy, not after.

I found the Walmart listing with Onuia and Westmonth both in the title and bought that one for $109 instead. It's thinner than the ad photos but perfectly fine for the guest room, and Walmart took it back without fuss when I tested the return. Not paying $280 for the same thing with an Australian return address.

EC
Emily Carter · Oct 4, 2026

That is the listing I mention above. I can't say who sells it, but the overlap is exactly why I don't take either brand's '1000 GSM' at face value.

PS
Paul S. Denver, CO · Oct 6, 2026

I noticed the numbers didn't line up either. 4.9 at the top of the product page, 4.8 further down, 4.8 on the home page, 20,000 reviews here and 15,000 customers there. I went looking for the actual reviews and the widget shows ten with a load more button. Never did find a total.

Question for Emily. My mattress is 14 inches and I'd be adding a topper on top. Will the Kemet skirt hold, and do I need new sheets?

EC
Emily Carter · Oct 9, 2026

Yes. The skirt is rated for 8 to 24 inches, so 14 plus the topper is well inside it. For sheets, go to a 16 inch pocket once the topper is on. Kemet's own sheet sets are cut that deep, which is probably why.

Ordered a King, received a Twin. Nine emails over three weeks. I finally filed a dispute with Chase with screenshots of the order and the size tag and had the money back in two weeks. Keep the packaging and photograph everything the day it arrives.

The card dispute was the only thing that worked for my neighbor too. She had been asking for a return address for a month.

Tracking sat on 'label created' for eleven days. I emailed both Gmail addresses and got the same auto reply from each. It showed up on day 23 with no note, no tag, nothing with the company name on it. The topper is fine. The silence was the problem.

GM
Greg M. Tampa, FL · Oct 18, 2026

Fair review. Mine arrived in 11 days, the topper is plush, thicker than the old one it replaced, and I have no complaint about the thing itself. I did not know about the Trustpilot situation until I read this. Would I buy it again at $280 when the Kemet is $250 and ships from inside the US? Probably not.

CD
Carol D. Phoenix, AZ · Oct 21, 2026

I ordered from the 'Sleep Edit' ad in September thinking it was a US bedding brand. The box came 19 days later, DHL, from China. The topper is honestly soft and I like sleeping on it. Then I asked to swap a Full for a Queen and the reply gave me an address in Melbourne and told me I pay the postage. USPS wanted $140. I kept the Full.

PH
Patricia H. · Oct 23, 2026

Same address, same answer. USPS quoted me $162 for a queen. I kept mine too and bought a Kemet for the main bed.
